Hannah Glavin

From Belmont High School to Clemson University

How did Campus Bound alumna Hannah Glavin find her dream school? By building a strong academic foundation, starting her research early, and keeping an open mind.

As a Belmont (MA) High School student, Hannah consistently challenged herself with AP courses like U.S. history, economics and psychology and honors courses such as statistics and physics. She was a member of the National Honor Society and a soccer player through all four years at Belmont High, and captain senior year. Community service was important to Hannah; she shoveled snow for elderly neighbors and made cards for first responders and healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the spring of sophomore year Hannah began working with Campus Bound College Counselor Danielle Yetman, who listened carefully to Hannah’s career goals and the characteristics she was looking for in a college. “I definitely wanted a big sports culture and campus spirit. I knew I wanted to go into business management, and I didn’t want to be in Boston,” says Hannah. “So schools with strong business majors were a priority. The way Danielle shared information about schools my parents and I weren’t familiar with was incredible.”

Danielle created a master college spreadsheet for review and discussion, color-coding and refining the list along the way, and this process was critical to broadening Hannah’s perspective.

“The biggest worry for me was, what if I don’t get in anywhere, were these all reaches? I needed to make sure I had a well-rounded list that I could still get excited about.”

A trip to the south in spring of junior year was a pivotal moment. Hannah and her mom were planning to see Wake Forest, and Danielle encouraged them to see other colleges in the area like Clemson and Elon. “I fell in love with the Clemson campus as soon as I saw it!” says Hannah. “It had always been in my top three or four but that was it. My mom signed up for all the parent communications, which she was impressed by, and that got us even more excited over time.”

Hannah chose to apply to Clemson, Wake Forest, Lehigh, University of Wisconsin, Holy Cross, Notre Dame, University of Maryland, and University of Colorado Boulder. When all of her decisions came back, she and her family immediately ordered Clemson sweatshirts.

Now a rising junior at Clemson, Hannah couldn’t be happier—and busier! She’s double-majoring in business management and economics with a concentration in operations. The business school offers numerous resources such as resumé support and LinkedIn connections. “Professors have been amazing with internship tips and advice and job help,” she notes. Hannah joined Women in Business, a club that opens doors for women in the business world, and serves on the student advisory board for the university’s Department of Business Management.

Hannah has found fulfilling extracurricular interests. The sailing race team takes up a lot of her time with twice-weekly practices and weekend travel to regattas. With nearly 500 students in the sailing club, Hannah holds important roles as secretary and head of capital improvements. “I’ve been able to meet so many new people and travel over the last two years, it’s amazing! I’ve found my community.” And Clemson’s school spirit doesn’t disappoint. Clemson sweatshirts and paw decals are everywhere, and football games are a must.

What’s next? Clemson has a program called UPIC, University Professional Internship and Co-op, which provides hundreds of paid, on-campus internships to undergraduates. Notes Hannah, “I’m really looking forward to this because I can interview with different programs like global management or operations and be mentored by a professor for a part-time or full-time internship. This is definitely a Clemson strength, having these career experiences before I graduate.” She has also benefited from the Clemson alumni network, which has been generous with time and wisdom.

This summer, Hannah is looking forward to working at Staples as a national operations intern. She hopes to study abroad in Florence, Italy in the spring of 2027, where Clemson has an excellent business program. And she wants to continue exploring operations management as a career. “I think process improvement and efficiency are really interesting—working with supply chain management internally and ensuring everything is working properly.”

Hannah has some advice for high school students and their parents:

“Do your due diligence! Research universities by looking at their websites but also Instagram, there’s so much information out there. Trust that you’re going to go where you need to be. Even though Clemson wasn’t my top school at the very beginning, now I can’t imagine myself anywhere else and I’m so happy with how it worked out. This is where I’m supposed to be.”

She adds, “Totally hire Campus Bound! We loved Danielle as soon as we met her and are very grateful as a family. It’s such a stressful time and your counselor is someone you can talk to other than your parents. Danielle took away that stress and kept my relationship with my mom and dad happy and healthy.” Hannah has a bright future ahead of her, and Campus Bound is proud to count her as one of our thousands of successful alumni. We can’t wait to see what she does next!
